When it comes to local cafes offering abundant menu choices and a modern aesthetic, the new kid on the block at MKT Deception Bay tops the list.
Located in the recently opened Coles supermarket precinct, H Cafe and Bar offers traditional-style cafe food: french toast, wraps, burgers, eggs, and steak, in addition to a commodious range of aromatic Vietnamese dishes. You’ll find noodle salads, banh mi, bao, and stir-fried rice meals, while fans of Korean-Thai food can enjoy chicken karaage or a vege rosti.
Open seven days a week and with extended opening hours, shift workers could tap into an extensive quick morning snack menu, or servings of breakfast, lunch and dinner any time of the day.
A pork banh mi was excellent value at $12. The delicious Vietnamese baguette had lashings of marinated pork, pickled carrot, cucumber, mayo, soya sauce and coriander. Helping the customer’s hip pocket was a beef patty burger with egg (a Sunrise Burger), which will set you back $8.
Liquid refreshments of beer, spirits and Oyster Bay wines complement a selection of hot drinks and tropical juices. Smoothie fans will relish a choice between smoothies made on yoghurt, ice cream or alternative milks. Low gluten, vegetarian and vegan options are also offered.
I enjoyed the friendly table service, which made for a refreshing change from the usual counter ordering systems, and I found the staff welcoming and attentive, with smiles all around. With prices and selections like these and convenient shaded parking available right at the door, I imagine it won't be long before there is a queue for tables.
