School holiday fervour hits Moreton Bay Region

Kids launch yourself into a range of fun-filled activities, as Moreton Bay Regional Council hosts a wide-range of events for children and teenagers between September 18 and October 3 as part of its Active Holidays, Libraries, Galleries and Ramp Up Programs.

Spokesperson for Parks, Recreation and Sports and Division 11 Councillor Darren Grimwade said with a variety of fun-filled activities on offer, this school holiday season, local kids aged 3-17 would “definitely” not be left feeling bored.

“Seeing kids physically active and enjoying the outdoors as well as socialising with other children is such a joy to see,” Cr Grimwade said.

“From kayak adventures, gymnastics, learning how to sail to hip hop and water polo, there is just about something for every kid to get excited about.

“And what’s great about these activities is that it gives the kids options to try something new and challenge themselves.

“I’m sure there will even be some parents who would like to challenge themselves and take part in these activities!”

Spokesperson for Lifestyle and Amenities and Division 10 Councillor Matt Constance said there would also be plenty of fun activities on offer at Moreton Bay Region Council’s libraries and galleries across the region.

“Young people in Grades 7 to 12 can experiment with several creative mediums, from abstract resin paintings, cartoon badge making, to making your own costume accessories and testing out your problem-solving skills to get out of an Escape Room,” Cr Constance said.

“For the primary school age group, there’s a huge variety of different events - LEGO Challenge, interactive children’s show with puppets, traditional Indigenous Stories of the Seas and exploring Indian culture among other interesting and stimulating activities.

“Moreton Bay Regional Council’s art galleries and museums also offer a wide range of activities and exhibitions for the whole family to enjoy.

“For instance, the Redcliffe Art Gallery has free public programs as part of its 15 Artists exhibition.

“Join some of the artists, of the 15 Artists exhibition, as they speak about their work, career and artistic influences. You can also try your hand at making origami boats inspired by one of the artworks.”

Cr Grimwade, said the school holidays’ Ramp Up Programs would bring a jam-packed calendar of events to the Moreton Bay Region, providing local kids the chance to stay active, meet new friends and experience some exciting new adventures.

“Ramp Up is a free council program for kids aged between 5 and 15, designed to introduce young families to their local skate park and teach kids to skate or scooter in a safe and fun environment.

“Ramp up is a great way for kids to get outdoors and stay active this school holidays, and it doesn’t matter if you’re only starting out on your skateboard or scooter - sessions are delivered by experienced coaches and participants can learn at their own pace.”

Cr Grimwade said a free Ramp Up skateboard session would be held on 18 September at Albany Creek, while free Ramp Up scooter sessions will be held between 20-29 September at Redcliffe, Woodford, Albany Creek, and Morayfield skate parks.

“Through this program, we want to provide local families with easy and affordable options to keep the kids entertained throughout the school holidays.

“Most activities in the program are free, with no booking required, however some activities require a small fee to cover running costs, and some require bookings due to limited spaces. Check out council’s website for more details or to book.”
