Just ahead of Plastic-Free July, Unitywater has installed five additional water refill stations in Moreton Bay to help keep the community hydrated for free.
As part of Unitywater’s Water on Tap program, the water refill stations aim to reduce single-use plastics that can end up in local waterways.
“We are keen to see people filling up their reusable water bottles at the touch of a button rather than adding to the world’s plastic problem.”
Unitywater Executive Manager Customer and Community Katherine Gee said the new stations brought the total number to 23 in Moreton Bay and 60 across Unitywater’s entire service region.
“We’re passionate about reducing single-use plastics in our area and are committed to doing our bit for our local waterways and providing places for our communities to fill up,” Ms Gee said.
“We are thrilled to have these new stations installed in time for Plastic-Free July and thank Moreton Bay Regional Council for working with us and helping determine the best locations for them.”
Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said council was pleased to partner on the initiative.
“We’ve worked with Unitywater to determine where the stations should go and have looked at foot traffic, how often public areas are frequented and where the community can best access them,” Mayor Flannery said.
“We are keen to see people filling up their reusable water bottles at the touch of a button rather than adding to the world’s plastic problem.
“This is yet another practical example of how our region is ‘Going Green As We Grow’.”
The 5 new locations are:
· Sandstone Point Oval, Sandstone Point
· Bob Brock Park, Dakabin
· Symphony Park, Burpengary
· John Oxley Reserve, Murrumba Downs
