Neuro Rehab Classes for Burpengary

Neurological rehab group classes are now available at Moreton All Body Care, Burpengary.

The classes started on Wednesday, 18 January 2023 and are for people with neurological conditions such as, but not limited to, Parkinson's Disease, those who have had a Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis and Cerebral Palsy.

“The exercises prescribed are aimed to increase the participant's strength to assist them in performing daily tasks, and improve balance and coordination to assist in safe ambulation at home and in the community.

Whilst everyone can benefit from exercise, those with a neurological condition can receive specific benefits.

"Neuro rehab is exercise-based rehabilitation specifically designed around the individual's neurological condition," explained Sonja Quaedvlieg, Clinical Exercise Physiologist at Moreton All Body Care.

"The exercises prescribed are aimed to increase the participant's strength to assist them in performing daily tasks, and improve balance and coordination to assist in safe ambulation at home and in the community. By focussing on these areas, it will aim to improve the participant's function and manage their symptoms related to their condition."

Those living with Parkinson's can benefit from a slowing of disease progression, managing symptoms, improvement of nerve and physical function, improving cardiovascular and muscular strength, as well as assistance in avoiding isolation

Stroke patients may experience improved walking ability and ability to complete daily activities, a reduced number of falls leading to improved confidence, improved strength, endurance, fitness, balance, coordination, flexibility, mood, alertness and thinking ability and lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

Multiple Sclerosis clients can experience fewer relapses and improved mobility. Strength and cardiovascular health, lower levels of fatigue, reduced incidences of depression and anxiety, less pain, along with a better balance and quality of life.

Those with Cerebral Palsy have seen improved health and well-being (reduced anxiety, depression and stress), maintained mobility and range of motion, reduced sedentary behaviours, reduced risk of mortality due to cardiovascular and circulatory complications, and improvement in sleep patterns and quality.

An initial assessment must be booked with one of Moreton All Body Care's Exercise Physiologists before participating in a group class to fully understand your current neurological condition and other health conditions. This ensures your exercise program is safe and specific to your needs. You will also set goals on what you want to achieve with the help of regular exercise.

Once your initial assessment is completed, you will be ready to start. Each group class runs for one hour and is supervised by two practitioners - a Physiotherapist and an Exercise Physiologist.

Each attendee focuses on completing, with guidance, their own tailored program and is re-assessed every eight weeks to ensure progressions are being made.

Along the way, regular education is provided on specific conditions, likely symptoms and the importance of exercise.

Two weekly classes are held at Moreton All Body Care on Wednesdays and Fridays at 12 noon. You have the option of attending one or both classes per week.

Classes are $15 each or can be purchased in a block of 16 classes for $150 (1 free class). If applicable, they can also be claimed under private health or through the NDIS.

These Neurological rehab group classes are aimed to be fun, social, supportive and educational whilst physically working toward your goals.

If you have any questions or know someone who might be interested and would benefit from the program, please get in touch with Moreton All Body Care via phone at their Burpengary clinic on (07) 3888 6699.
