Works start on Samford’s new community hub

Samford locals can expect to see demolition work commencing on site this month at Samford Parklands, as the first stage of works get underway on the new community hub.

Councillor for Division 11 Darren Grimwade announced a $330,000 tender had been awarded to CDR Industries Pty Ltd for demolition works.

“This is the start of a $4.5 million project, with a $2.225 million contribution from the Australian Government through their Building Better Regions Fund,” he said.

“The demolition component will see thirteen buildings demolished, which do not include the existing glasshouses, so we can build a brand new state-of-the art community facility in its place.

“The Samford Valley is a beautiful place to live not just because of the environment, but because of the community-centred lifestyle, and this is something we want to enhance for residents.

“This community hub will boost social connectedness and provide opportunities for a diverse range of activities including a community library, tenancy spaces for important support services, kitchen facilities, amenities, offices and shared use meeting/activity spaces.

“I’m proud to be part of a council that’s prioritising this kind of investment and thank the Australian Government for their support.

“This is an excellent example of what can be achieved when different levels of governments come together for the betterment of the community.”

Design of the community hub, including consultation with the relevant community groups, is currently underway and is expected to be completed by August 2019.

Demolition works will start this month and take nine weeks to complete, weather permitting.
