Moreton Bay Regional Council is encouraging families and children to dig deep at community planting events across the region in celebration of National Tree Day on Sunday 28 July 2019.
Environment Spokesperson Denise Sims said it was expected more than 4000 native plants including trees, shrubs and groundcovers would be planted at Everton Hills, Caboolture South and Margate.
“We want you to join the region’s major tree plantings at Sylvia Gibbs Park, 286 Old Northern Road, Everton Hills; Platypus Creek Environmental Reserve, 12 Julie Drive, Caboolture South; or Seacrest Park, 1 Seacrest Avenue, Margate”, she said.
“National Tree Day is an important initiative for the region’s wildlife corridors and environmental habitats.
“Council has an extensive revegetation program, including the planting of more than 6,100 trees at John H Walker Reserve, and a green infrastructure program that is connecting the region’s 1,700 Ha of environmental corridors and reserves.
“Caring for our environment now will mean we can enjoy the fruits of our labour for years to come and is the reason why investing in our environment is one of our single biggest spends in our 19/20 Budget.
“This year a massive $54.3 million will be spent on our parks, native habitats and environment.”
