New Bridge Afoot at Morayfield Station

The Morayfield station accessibility upgrade reached a major milestone over the first weekend of June (1-2 June) with the installation of the station’s new pedestrian footbridge.

State Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan said the installation paved the way for the remaining works, which will connect the existing station facilities with the new footbridge to create an accessible, step-free path of travel throughout the station precinct.

“It’s fantastic to see consistent progress being made on the Morayfield station accessibility upgrade, with the main section of the new footbridge now installed,” Mr Ryan said.

“With the structure’s gantry in place, the next stages will include installing stairs and accessible lifts to make the footbridge fully functional.

“The station’s primary pathways will then be upgraded to connect the bridge to the station’s facilities.

“We’d like to thank local people for their patience as they continue to use the station’s existing footbridge, which will remain in place until the new bridge has been commissioned.”

In addition to the new footbridge, Mr Ryan said local commuters could also look forward to the upgrade delivering a new station building and toilets, partially raised platforms focused on the assisted boarding point, upgrades to the audible hearing loops, tactile platform markings, improved station signage and improved CCTV.

“Construction on the new station building has already commenced alongside the installation of temporary seating and shelter on Platform 1,” Mr Ryan said.

“The next stages will include the installation of the stairs to connect the new footbridge with the station platforms, and construction of the lift shaft segments in preparation for the lift installations.

“The Morayfield station upgrade is part of a $300 million investment by the Queensland Government to improve accessibility at stations across the South East Queensland train network.

“With major works well progressed, we expect the Morayfield station accessibility upgrade will be complete by mid-2020.
