The life’s work of Walter ‘Wally’ Day will be forever enshrined in the community he loved, with a Burpengary park to be named after him in a special ceremony on Saturday 4 May.
Councillor for Division 2 Peter Flannery thanked Moreton Bay Regional Council for supporting changing the name of Torelli Drive Park to Wally Day Park.
The public is invited to attend the occasion at Torelli Drive Park along Torelli Drive, Burpengary at 10am.
“Wally Day was a well-respected and much loved figure in the Burpengary community who served in the Voluntary Defence Corp during World War II,” Cr Flannery said.
“He was a tireless volunteer who played an instrumental role in forming and running many of our community groups like the Burpengary Community Progress Association and the Methodist Sunday School.
“He was also involved with Burpengary State School, North Pine Regional Development Association and helped to secure an ambulance vehicle for the community.
“I hope our younger-generation will follow in Mr Day’s footsteps and look at different ways they can contribute and support their community.
“The park naming for Mr Day is a fitting way to remember his outstanding contribution and his lasting impact in our community.
“Now, when the community visits Burpengary, they’ll be able to learn about his legacy and the positive impact he and his family had in shaping our local area.”
