Calling all art aficionados! The Moreton Bay Region Youth Art Awards exhibition opens soon and council wants you to see young artists shine in the region.
Lifestyle and Amenity Spokesperson Cr Denise Sims said she expected competition to be hot, with eight cash prizes of $200 up for grabs for the individual young artists along with $3000 in prize monies going to schools to benefit their art programs.
“Council has supported this annual competition since 1995 and wants to encourage young local artists to pursue their artistic careers and talents.”
Councillor for Division 9 Mike Charlton said he was looking forward to seeing the exhibition of all the exciting works created by the region’s young creative minds.
“This council-organised award is open to anyone 18 and under, either living locally or attending one of our region’s schools,” he said.
“We will see everything from crayon drawings and paintings to finely crafted sculptures, ceramics, glass, photography, digital art and collaborative efforts.”
The Moreton Bay Region Youth Art Awards is divided into two art categories - 2D and 3D works - and entries are grouped by school grade level.
This year’s winners will receive their prizes at an awards celebration on Friday 19 October from 6pm at the Strathpine Community Centre - 199 Gympie Road, Strathpine (entry and free parking via Mecklem Street)
The public can view works between October 20 and 28 between 3pm and 6pm during the week and between 10am and 4pm over the weekend.
