Queenslanders Love their “Cool” Cars and SUVs

When you’re looking for a new car, what do you look for? Do you look for comfort, space, performance, fuel economy, or perhaps a combination of all these things?

One thing you might not pay much attention to until the last stage of the buying decision is the colour of the car. Carzoos surveyed 1,275 Australians and found 75% would prefer to buy a car in a lighter colour such as white, grey or silver.

It comes as no surprise that the Sunshine State ranked above the rest of the country with 78% of Queenslanders opting to buy lighter coloured cars. We can all appreciate another reason to keep cool from the extreme temperatures that can be reached in summer.

Other reasons include that it’s easier to keep clean than a darker coloured car and that it can even get a higher resale value later on.

Queenslanders also love their medium SUVs

Within this category, you have your 4WDs which Queenslanders love to use for weekend adventures along the coast and in the bush. On the other hand, you have your family vehicles which are great for driving around town and picking up the kids.

Of course, it all depends on how old you are. While Gen X and Gen Y love their Medium SUVs over other car types, Baby Boomers love their small cars for getting around. Whereas only a handful of people are opting for medium cars such as the Toyota Camry.

So there you have it. If you’re under 55 and are considering a new car then you may want to consider a medium SUV. In 2018, the Mazda CX-5 is the most popular car in this category according to VFacts while Toyota is the most popular brand.

Whichever car you choose, make sure that you pick something you are comfortable with and can sustain high heat and temperatures. If you’re buying in winter now, you will want to keep this in the back of your mind when it’s suddenly 35 degrees in January. A maroon car may show that you’re a true Queenslander. While a blue car is probably out of the question, our research shows it pays to invest in something a little more subdued.
