15,500+ spots up for grabs in Moreton Bay’s largest sport and health program

Moreton Bay Regional Council has unveiled its largest-ever offering of free and low-cost activities for locals as part of its newly announced Healthy and Active Moreton program.

More than 760 activities, from scuba diving and surfing, to mum and bubs soccer and cooking, will be on offer over six months, with many activities back by popular demand.

Parks, Sport and Recreation Spokesperson Councillor Koliana Winchester said from July, more than 15,500 places would be available across the 768 activities delivered by more than 75 local providers, including 31 local clubs and organisations.

Healthy and Active Moreton offers a range of local activities for Moreton Bay residents of all ages and abilities to experience and keep fit and healthy.

“For the first time ever, we’ll be hosting a number of events designed especially for parents and children under five, while a range of activities will also be hosted at new locations throughout the region, making it easier than ever to get involved,” Cr Winchester said.

“Due to popular demand, the program will also see the return of activities including Active Mums group fitness, scuba diving and cooking workshops.

Cr Winchester said bookings for activities would open a month prior to each activity taking place, and are generally made through council’s website, although some bookings are required to be made by contacting the provider directly. Booking for the first lot of activities open on July 17.

“Healthy and Active Moreton is your chance to keep fit, get active and try something new, whether it’s a 4WD and kayaking adventure, Zumba, fishing or even barefoot bowls.”
