Her passion to inspire and support her community has earned a young journalism student from Burpengary, a $1000 bursary thanks to the National Council of Women of Queensland (NCWQ) and Moreton Bay Regional Council.
A special presentation was held at Caboolture on Tuesday, 15 August following council’s coordination meeting, with Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland and Deputy Mayor Mike Charlton presenting Tiffanie Turnbull, 19 with the coveted bursary.
“Tiffanie’s achievements throughout her schooling career is remarkable and her strength to empower communities in the Moreton Bay Region is inspirational,” Mayor Sutherland said.
“She has such a strong passion to be involved in the community from her role as Head Mentor and Founder of the Academic Success Peer Mentoring Program, through to Head Mentor and co-founder of the High Achieving Student’s program at Northpine Christian College and volunteering efforts at the Pine Rivers District RSL Sub-branch among other wonderful achievements, she is truly deserving of this bursary.
“These bursaries are a terrific initiative to not only support students financially but to also recognise their success.”
The NCWQ held a ceremony last month for this year’s recipients through its annual bursary program.
A total of 31 bursaries were presented to the recipients in the presence of His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC and NCWQ patron.
NCWQ sponsors two bursaries, with the first bursary offered in 2009 when the program commenced
Since 2009, 140 female Queensland students have been assisted by this program - with bursaries ranging from $1,000 to $2,000.
The NCWQ is a non-party-political, non-sectarian, not-for-profit, umbrella organisation with largely humanitarian and educational objectives.
